Images from a trip to Peru & the Galapagos Islands in 2015, organised by Tribes Travel. After an overnight stop in Lima, we flew to Cusco for a couple of days acclimatisation to altitude, before travelling to Machu Picchu on the Vistadome train, staying at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu. Cusco is a wonderful city to visit, in a spectacular mountain location. It is a lively place, with busy squares, many shops, lots of restaurants and live music in the evenings. We enjoyed excellent meals and had no problems with the altitude, having followed the advice regarding limited alcohol and maximum hydration.
The Vistadome train is a great experience, with stunning scenery and tasty on-board snacks & entertainment. The Inkaterra Machu Picchu is a superb hotel, with it's own cloud forest garden and trails. It was a great base for our trips to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, as well as being an excellent place for birding within it's own garden. With great food and service in addition to the magnificent location, we definitely recommend the Inkaterra as a must-stay option.
After returning to Cusco, we travelled to Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon and onwards to the Wildlife Research Centre at Manu. We stayed at the lodge for 4 nights, during which time we enjoyed a busy schedule of trips; Macaw clay licks, oxbow lake, forest walks and a night-visit to the Tapir hide. Again, we would highly recommend Manu for the location, food, hospitality and stunning wildlife experiences.
After our stay in Manu, we travelled to the Galapagos Islands via Guayaquil in Ecuador. This was truly an experience of a lifetime. Images can be seen in the Galapagos gallery. I'll include details in a full trip report at a later date.
The whole trip was organised superbly and we had excellent guides throughout. We would definitely recommend Tribes Travel to anyone planning a wildlife trip in Peru/Ecuador/Galapagos.
