Images from a two-day workshop "Secret British Mammals" run by Bob Brind-Surch of Nature's Photos. The workshop was based at an excellent wildlife centre in Devon. The centre is the main site for Water Vole breeding in the UK. Water Voles displaced by developments etc. are removed from threatened sites and form part of a breeding programme at the centre. New populations of Water Voles are then available to re-populate nature reserves and other suitable areas of the UK. In addition to Water Vole conservation activities, the centre houses a collection of British wildlife in enclosed areas with natural surroundings. Small groups of photographers are allowed into the larger enclosures under the supervision of Bob and the animal handlers. Getting up close and personal with Wild Boar, Otters, Foxes, Scottish Wildcats and other animals was a great experience. We were all delighted with the photographic opportunities available within the centre. Smaller mammals such as Weasels, Stoats, Water Voles and Water Shrews were photographed in studio conditions, also set up within the centre.
Bob is an excellent workshop leader/tutor and the centre is a superb venue for photography. I would thoroughly recommend the Nature's Photos "Secret British Mammals" workshop. (I have already booked my place on Bob's Crocodiles and Wolves workshops). The accommodation at Frankaborough Farm Cottages was also excellent - a great B&B arrangement while staying in cottage accommodation. Highly recommended.
